Intelligence Reform Oppo Round-Up

At the risk of becoming your “all intelligence reform, all the time” blog channel, here is a round-up of those who (like yours truly) oppose the proposed reform:

Columnists and Editorial Boards

Rich Lowry at National Review Online calls the drama surrounding the proposed bill “Washington at its worst”; meanwhile, the NRO Editorial Board lauds Sensebrenner and counsels a “go slow” approach

Tony Blankley considers the parentage of the intelligence “reform” bill and labels it misbegotten

The Indianapolis Star says real intelligence reform is already happening, and urges more methodical study and reasoned change than the current bill provides

Tom Donnelly at The Weeky Standard says Duncan Hunter has guts and smarts, along with a son in Iraq, and is doing the right thing

William Safire calls Duncan Hunter a “hero” for stopping the intelligence reform steamroller and says real reform is a job for the next Congress, all while taking a well-deserved swipe at the absent Senate oversight of the intelligence community, lo these many years

Bloggers

The men at Powerline have a three part series titled “A Rush to Bad Judgment here, here and here. Read them all.

Captain Ed fires a broadside against the bill, in which he mentions George Tenet’s (!) announced opposition to the measure.

The JunkYardBlog sees the potential for “single points of failure” in the proposed intel bureaucracy, and doesn’t like it.

FAIR AND BALANCED ALERT! Milblogger Blackfive, who has had significant real life military intelligence experience, supports the bill, and opines that the Sensenbrenner / immigration issues are more to blame for the legislations’s problems than the Hunter / Pentagon issues.

Boots and Sabers, on the other hand, counsels caution and deliberation.

Amy Ridenour quotes Rush and, to paraphrase, asks, “Isn’t the Congress supposed to debate these issues. And, err, not to rubber stamp proposals from unelected commissions?”
